Reading and Math Labs have been installed with 20 new computers each with specialized math and reading software. Some of the titles include A+ Reading, Star Reading, Accelerated Reading, Read 180, A+ Math, Geometers Sketchpad, Math911 and Accelerated Math. This allows teachers and students to chart and improve comprehension of the materials. This also allows for the development and use of innovative strategies to deliver specialized courses through the use of technology.

A Project Lead the Way (PLTW) lab is used for specializing in pre-engineering and also advanced math.

Future plans are to assure all students network data storage capabilities on an academic network file server with their own user name and password providing private and secure areas for data storage available anywhere in the building. This will allow student flexibility for working on projects and portfolios.

Continue to work toward connecting all shop areas to the building wide network ( LAN ). This provides the shops with access to network software programs and data storage areas, along with internet connectivity.

Pathfinder continues to collaborate with the Palmer Affiliated Library System to share resources to meet the information needs of faculty, staff and students. Some of the resources, services and programs include: adult education, bookmobile, career information, homework center and homework help on-line, interlibrary loan, on-line resources and databases, etc. This allows easy access to all resources from home as well as school.

Pathfinder's web site encourages parents to keep abreast of news and activities at the school. The information is updated and posted regularly during the school year by our information technology student program. The web site provides contact information for faculty and staff, allowing parents various ways in which to keep in contact with specific people.

Pathfinder has available to our faculty web site training, so faculty can create their own web sites for their classes. This helps keep students and parents in the communication loop by posting key dates, homework and any announcements. We continue to look at and evaluate other options to post homework assignments and announcements via web solutions, providing a non-intrusive way for parents to stay in the communication loop.

All teachers have computers on their desktops and are connected to the Internet. Pathfinder has established a number of laptop computers to be available to faculty on an as needed, sign out basis so they can take them home to stay connected. Students have Internet capability in many areas of the school, including the Library, Shops, and classrooms.

Pathfinder has various department oriented software programs on the network, allowing for integration of curricula and technology. Wireless connectivity is available throughout several areas within the school.

Computer and Network Use Guidelines and Rules

Priority is given to accessing information for classroom/educational use. If a computer is available, students may use the Internet to explore topics of personal interest within the guidelines stated in this policy and communicated to students in school.

Acceptable Use Guidelines:

Class and course related use will take priority, and any personal interest use will be dependent on availability of computers and network capacity.

  3. Each user of the network and computer facilities bears full responsibility for his or her own actions. The school system will not be liable for the actions of network users. Users shall assume full liability, legal, financial, or otherwise, for their actions.
No user shall use the network to perform any act that may be construed as illegal or unethical, including use of the network to gain unauthorized access to other systems on the network.

  4. Users shall observe all provisions of copyright law in using material obtained from network sources.
